Maternity Ten-Item Wardrobe Talk-Through SS 2018 | Jennifer L. Scott

$

I hope you enjoyed Monday's Ten-Item Wardrobe video. As is traditional on my blog, I'll be talking through each piece in today's video.

Today's video is not just for pregnant ladies, or ladies who plan to become pregnant, however. I show you what I would have worn this season had I not been pregnant. I also share some practical fashion wardrobe tips, including wearing maternity shareware under my thin dresses as well as the demi-camisole I use for all of my low-cut tops and dresses.

The four returning dresses are from Seraphine.

The following dresses were found in zulily's maternity section. Zulily always has an excellent selection of heavily discounted maternity wear. They carry many of the major maternity brands at such a discounted rate. These are my pieces from zulily.

The following items were from Amazon. This black skirt is not actually a maternity skirt, I'm just using it as one. It has a fold over top band that works well in maternity and will work well after. I love the maternity tee shirts from Amazon. They have such a great fit! The jeans are from zulily.

I also mention my undergarment secrets in today's video.

I will often wear maternity shapewear under my dresses to smooth everything out. I wear this brand from Amazon. (Please note: the screenshot above is from the model, not me :) )

Another wardrobe secret: I wear a demi-camisole underneath my low-cut dresses. I love these from Amazon. They come in many different colors. This is an excellent staple for all wardrobes, not just maternity. Wear these demi-camisoles over your bra to cover up a low-cut blouse or dress.

I cannot find the exact canvas bins I use, because they were purchased years ago. This set of 6 canvas bins is Amazon's choice and has good reviews.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Switching to All-Natural Cleaning Products | New Series | Natural Home with Jennifer

$
0
0

I'm really excited to launch a new series today on The Daily Connoisseur, Natural Home with Jennifer. I have made the decision to completely switch to all-natural cleaning products for our home. I've always been interested in natural cleaning products. As you will recall, I share my homemade lavender vinegar cleaner recipe in At Home with Madame Chic, and have also done a blogpost on it. This is an affordable natural cleaner that will aide you with many areas of your cleaning.

But while I was using my lavender vinegar spray, I was also using many cleaners that weren't natural: shower sprays, floor cleaners, dishwashing detergent, dish soap, laundry detergent, toilet bowl cleaners, glass cleaners, and I'm sure many other cleaning products that I'm failing to think of right now.

Earlier this year, I read the major bombshell study that came out in many different publications on the detrimental effects of using traditional cleaning products on women's health. The study was published in many places including Newsweek, Fortune and Reuters.

The study, which was originally published in American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, discovered that, "Women cleaning at home or working as occupational cleaners had accelerated decline in lung function, suggesting that exposures related to cleaning activities may constitute a risk to long-term respiratory health."

The headlines on Newsweek and Fortune put it more bluntly:

"IMPACT OF CLEANING PRODUCTS ON WOMEN'S LUNGS AS DAMAGING AS 20-A-DAY CIGARETTE HABIT: STUDY"

"Using Household Cleaning Products Can be as Bad as Smoking a Pack A Day"

Yikes!

This study really convicted me, because I come in contact with cleaning products every single day of my life. Cleaning is a major part of my life, and I'm guessing yours too. Occasionally using my homemade vinegar cleaner wasn't going to cut it. I decided I needed to switch to all-natural products in all of the other areas of cleaning as well, not only for my sake, but my family's sake, and the environment's sake.

After I made my decision, I wasn't quite sure where to begin. Do I just go to the nearest store and see what natural products they have available? How do I make the switch?

I did a lot of research and found an online company called Grove Collaborative. I had heard of Grove from many of my friends who use it and it's also featured on some of my favorite YouTube channels like, How Jen Does It.

Grove Collaborative is a certified B Corp, which means it's a company that has passed the most rigorous standards for businesses that prioritize social, environmental, and community wellbeing. Every product they offer is natural and meets strict requirements to even be on their website, so you don't have to worry about any of the products you're purchasing. They sell very familiar brands in the natural product world such as Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, Method and Seventh Generation. They also have their own line of eco-friendly, natural products. Grove also sell all-natural beauty products as well.

The best part is that they sell their products at a major discount. I price-checked so many of their products against Amazon, Target and Whole Foods and Grove sold them at the best price every time.

Grove has the option to have your cleaning products on a subscription service so you never run out. You are always reminded before your next shipment ships and are always able to modify or cancel your order at any time. If you don't want your natural products delivered to you on a subscription, you can just place a one-time order or as-needed orders. They are always offering free gifts and amazing deals. In short, it's a wonderful company.

Another exciting thing about Grove's all-natural products is that you can't find them in many places. They carry niche boutique cleaning products that smell and look amazing. Many of them I had never seen or heard of before! I love that their products infuse aromatherapy into the formulas. When I clean, I can confidently enjoy the scent of the products and not worry that my health is being compromised.

So, I have made the switch to all-natural cleaning products and I get them all from Grove Collaborative.

If you are interested in making the same switch and would like to try out Grove, I have an amazing free gift offer for you.

Get a free Mrs. Meyers Cleaning Set, which includes a Mrs. Meyer's dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand soap, and Mrs. Meyer''s Multi-Surface Spray + Free shipping with VIP Trial when you sign up with Grove Collaborative.

There are so many unique and interesting products out there, however, it can be overwhelming. What are the best scents? Which ones work the best? In my new series, Natural Home with Jennifer, I plan to review the natural products I use. This video will be in addition to the ones I already post on Mondays and Thursdays. So, for the summer, you can expect to see three posts from me. Natural Home with Jennifer, will go up each Friday. I'm excited for this new series and hope you'll join me for it!

Be sure to watch today's video for much more on Natural Home with Jennifer.

On last week's Maternity Ten-Item Wardrobe Talk-Through video, Ebby writes, "Now, I don't fit into any of these clothes, so let's look at the clothes that I do fit!" haha, you have such a positive body image!! Growing up, the women in my family were always dieting, extreme dieting, yoyo dieting, never exercising and grazing in the kitchen all day! I never realized what a negative impact this had on me, since before kids I was always small. Now after my first baby Im resorting to all these crazy, desperate measures to drop the weight, not to mention I'm not that nice to myself, but that's how I was raised! That's what I was taught was normal. From your books I am learning to dress well for the current shape I'm in, stop trying to squeeze into my old tight clothes, and to eat more mindfully. The weight will come off in due time. Thank you for your videos, they're so encouraging to me as a new mom. Much love from central Texas! -Ebby"

Hi Ebby, I loved your comment. Sometimes it's hard to break the bad habits we pick up from the past, but it is possible. Having a positive body image is really important, especially during and after pregnancy, as your body will most certainly change. Thank you for commenting!

I hope you enjoy today's video and are excited about the new series. I would love to know... have you made the switch to all-natural cleaning products? Which natural products are your favorite? If you have a request for me to review a natural cleaning or beauty product, please leave your request in the comment section. I'll see you on Thursday for a fun makeup video, and then again on Friday for the first natural product review.

On Monday's Switching to All-Natural Products Cleaning Products video, A Lovely Life with Luna writes, "I am always happy to see when someone "goes natural"! I am an advocate for green cleaning, as someone diagnosed with asthma many years ago, I probably only have an attack 2-3 times per year, and I do attribute that to healthy cleaning products (in part)

I'm also a nurse that works in hospital setting with majority of patients over the age of 55. I have noticed (amongst many trends) a trend of female patients over the age of 55 to 60 yrs that women have MANY more complications of the lungs, whether that be COPD,emphysema, small nodules and cysts, and atelectasis than my male patients. I'd say the ratio of women to men with pulmonary complications is probably 6-8:1. On a side note I'm also noticing older women with a lot of liver and renal cysts, nodules, and just general anomalies- and these are organs that filter and excrete. Just food for thought."

Hi Luna, the study on the damaging effects of traditional cleaning products was a real eye-opener for me. And your observation on the declining health of older women regarding lung function is truly interesting. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm excited to switch to more natural cleaning products now to prevent future health problems.

Thank you to everyone for watching today's makeup tutorial. I hope you enjoyed it! I'll see you tomorrow for my first natural product review on Natural Home with Jennifer.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Lavender Surface Scrub | Natural Home with Jennifer

$

Welcome to our new Friday series, Natural Home with Jennifer, where I give you in-depth, honest reviews of natural cleaning products. Today, I'm reviewing Mrs. Meyer's Surface Scrub in Lavender. I tackle a deep stain on my stovetop with dazzling results from this natural scrub.

You can read about why I'm switching to natural cleaning products in Monday's blogpost, Switching to Natural Cleaning Products | New Series.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Surface Scrub works on the grimy surfaces throughout your home. This non-scratching gentle and effective cleaning scrub powder is made with a naturally safe ash and oxygen bleach for use on cleaning cookware, tile, stainless steel, porcelain fixtures, and more. It's chlorine and phosphate free, too.

*Ingredients are at least 98% naturally derived
*Phthalate free
*No animal derived ingredients

To use: wet the surface, sprinkle the powder, and scrub. For the tough stain on my stove, I let the powder sit for several minutes to penetrate the surface.

Please note, you can find the surface scrub on Amazon, but I don't recommend buying it there as the price is way higher than at Grove Collaborative. At the time of writing this, the scrub sells for $9.12 on Amazon, but on Grove Collaborative it is only $4.95. You can see the major price difference. Grove always has the best discounts for these natural products.

I hope you enjoy the review and cleaning session in today's video.

New customers can get a free Mrs. Meyers gift Set, which includes a Mrs. Meyer's dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand soap, and Mrs. Meyer''s Multi-Surface Spray + Free shipping with VIP Trial when you sign up with Grove Collaborative and spend $20. Existing members with Grove Collaborative can receive a free walnut scrubber sponge.

Thank you for joining me for today's Natural Home with Jennifer. If you have any natural products you'd like me to review please leave them in the comment section below.

Epic Pantry Organization | De-Clutter With Me | Jennifer L. Scott

$

I'm so busy throughout the school year, certain organizational projects get postponed. In my case, the much-needed organization project involved our pantry. When we moved into our house last August, it was never properly organized. Then we took our trip to Europe and when we came back 6 weeks later, we jumped back into our homeschool routine and the pantry never got sorted out.

Now that we are taking a summer break from school, I have time to tackle these organizational projects. Today, I bring you along with me. I de-clutter and organize our pantry and, while it's a lot of work, it feels so good to get the job done!

I actually did this video a few weeks ago and I can tell you, it's been wonderful walking into an organized pantry each morning. What a joy! Everyone in the house has noticed too and has taken care to keep it tidy. I hope you enjoy today's video and feel inspired to de-clutter along with me.

Mentioned in the video:

I use these can rack organizers to store my canned goods.

I use these seagrass baskets to hold my bagged goods and these wire baskets to hold onions and potatoes.

Because we live in California and earthquakes are prevalent here, I always have a supply of prepper foods and extra water. You never know when a natural disaster might strike, and it's best to be prepared. I have a combination of dehydrated, long-shelf life foods, including Eden Valley Farms, which has a 25 year shelf life, Emergency ready standard survival kit, and emergency drinking water (pack of 66).

The appliances I have on my shelf are the following, Vitamix blender, Instant pot, Crock pot, small slow cooker (I use this for my oatmeal), rice cooker, heart-shaped waffle maker (please note: my waffle maker is so old, I can't find it anymore so I have linked a similar one here), yogurt maker, and Kitchen Aide.

The Mrs. Meyer's lemon verbena multi-surface cleaner and the Aunt Fannie's Ant Remedy are both from Grove Collaborative.

Get a free Mrs. Meyers Cleaning Set, which includes a Mrs. Meyer's dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand soap, and Mrs. Meyer''s Multi-Surface Spray + Free shipping with VIP Trial when you sign up with Grove Collaborative for the first time. Existing Grove customers also get a free gift, a walnut scrubber sponge. *You must spend $20 in order to be eligible for the gift.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

BettyLou writes, "I use grove collaborative and the customer service is amazing. I don't need to reorder as frequently as many households so I can just delete the products I don't need from my order. The glass spray bottles with the silicone sleeves are an investment but I love them. Each color gets a different refill product. I love the geranium scent and the honeysuckle. I wish they had a vanilla scent to use exclusively in the kitchen. They also have a product that draws away those annoying little gnats that get in the fresh fruit in warm weather. We have very hard water so some of the products don't work for our home, that is when i use a homemade vinegar, castile soap, and essential oil mix to clean with."

Hi BettyLou, I couldn't agree more. The customer service with Grove is excellent. I do the same with my re-ordering. I just delete what doesn't apply to me and order only what I need. This way I never run out. I also order a wide variety of items for the sole purpose of reviewing them on the channel, which is something that most people wouldn't need to do. I'm excited to try the geranium scent. I already love the honeysuckle. Thanks for your comment!

Shop with Me bare Minerals + Sephora | Dinner with My Sister | Jennifer L. Scott

In today's vlog, my sister and I go shopping and have dinner together. I've been running low on some basic makeup essentials so we also stop by Sephora and bare Minerals. I hope you join me for today's video.

Here is the makeup I purchased on my shopping trip. I was running very low on foundation, concealer, eyeliner, and mascara.

BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation in Sandstone 16

The lady at bare Minerals suggested that I try the bare pro foundation powder on top of the liquid foundation. I really like this combination together!

bareMinerals Bare pro Performance Wear Powder Foundation, Sandstone

For times when I am only using the powder foundation, she recommended I use this brush to apply it...

bare Minerals Core Coverage Brush

bareMinerals Correcting Concealer Broad Spectrum SPF 20, Medium 2, 0.07 Oz

I will use the Mineral Veil for times when I am only using the liquid foundation....

Bareminerals Mineral Veil

I was nearly out of eyeliner, so I purchased these two shades, which I really like.

bareMinerals Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eyeliner, Endless Orchid,

Bareminerals 'Lasting Line - True Romantic' Long Wear Eyeliner - Eternal Bronze

Bareminerals Gen Nude Patent Lip Lacquer - 2Legit

Bareminerals Gen Nude Patent Lip Lacquer - Dahling

Bareminerals Gen Nude Powder Blush - Pink Me Up

At Sephora, I purchased the following:

Benefit Boi ing Airbrush Concealer - # 03 (Medium) 5g/0.17oz

Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara - Burgundy

This was not purchased in my video, but if you're curious about the eyeshadow palette I used, it was the one by Kate that I purchased in Japan. I'll link it here for those interested.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Regarding Monday's pantry organization video, Erin G. writes, "When you played the horror music I laughed. That was a good one! You have a great size pantry. I can relate to wanting to organize during the summer as well. With two kids and a part time job during the school year, life gets hectic and chaotic! When I organized my pantry I purchased OXO containers which gave my pantry a sleek organized look and they're extremely easy for the family to use. I purchased mine on Amazon, Bed Bath Beyond as well as Home Goods. Hey, I'm always searching for a good deal! You should try the cereal containers OXO makes. I will never use anything other than those!"

Hi Erin, I think my horror music gave a few people a good laugh, including myself! I modeled it off of the old British TV show, How Clean is Your House? :) Thank you for the OXO recommendation. I do still need to buy cereal containers.

Method Wood Floor Cleaner in Almond | Natural Home with Jennifer

$

Welcome to another episode of Natural Home with Jennifer. In today's video, I'm reviewing one of my favorite natural products ever: The Method wood floor cleaner in almond scent.

If you love the scent of almonds, you will absolutely love this wood floor cleaner.

Method writes,"We used to reserve our floor cleaning for very special occasions—like limbo night or the queen’s visit. But this non-toxic + biodegradable no-wax wood floor cleaner turns a chore into an almond-scented delight. Just squirt, mop and bask in the glow of a gleaming clean. Formulated for sealed hardwood and laminate floors."

To use: Squirt on floor and mop, using a damp or dry mop/cloth. Use a thin layer, enough to wet and clean the floor. Do not dilute. No need to rinse, either.

All of method’s ingredients are comprehensively assessed by a leading research firm to ensure their safety for people and the environment.

I truly love and highly recommend this wood floor cleaner. It's really an excellent product.

This is the microfiber mop I use.

You can find the Method wood floor cleaner on Amazon, but I get mine from Grove Collaborative, where I get all of my natural cleaning products. I highly recommend Grove because it is a wonderful company that has great perks for its VIP members, including free shipping and returns as well as frequent free gifts.

New customers to Grove Collaborative can get a free Mrs. Meyers gift Set, which includes a Mrs. Meyer's dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand soap, and Mrs. Meyer''s Multi-Surface Spray + Free shipping with VIP Trial when you sign up with Grove and spend $20. Existing members with Grove Collaborative can receive a free walnut scrubber sponge.

I'm combining a favorites video with a pregnancy chat update today. I talk about weight gain, skin, cravings, back pain, and pregnancy drinks. Plus, I share my favorite classical music song for you with a fun recommendation. I hope you join me for today's video.

How much weight have I gained? What are my strange pregnancy cravings? What is different about this pregnancy regarding my skin? Did my back pain ever resolve itself? I answer these questions, plus so much more in today's video.

The good people at Naipo, sent me this Naipo neck and shoulder massager after hearing me discuss my back pain in the previous pregnancy chat video. I am seriously in love with this hot stone-effect, shiatsu neck and shoulder massager. Thank you to Naipo for sending me such a special gift. The massager is highly rated on Amazon and totally affordable. Naipo have even given readers of The Daily Connoisseur a 20% off coupon code.

Thank you, Naipo!

The sparkling water beverage I have been enjoying is the La Croix in cerise limón.

The classical music piece I have been listening to over and over again is called Adagio in G Minor by Tomaso Albinoni.

Tomaso Albinoni was an Italian Baroque composer who lived from 1671 to 1751.

Here is a wonderful free YouTube video showing the Copernicus Chamber Orchestra
playing Adagio.

If you want to watch a truly passionate cello solo of this performance, check out Hauser's rendition.

I listened to this on my Rainy Day Classics CD, which is so old, but I found on Amazon for only $4.

Clean your kitchen tonight while listening to this beautiful piece. I'm sure you've heard it before, but truly study and appreciate it as you go about your day. It will enrich you.

Comment of the Week
On last week's Shop with Me video, Connie writes, "So much fun to see you get to spend girl time with your sister. It really recharges us as Moms to get out on our own sometimes, doesn’t it? I love many bare minerals products so I am looking forward to seeing more on that. I have the retractable brush and use it often at home and for travel. Connie"

Hi Connie, it is such a rare and special treat to just go out without the kids and do some makeup shopping. It only happens about once a year here, so I really enjoyed it :) Thank you for watching!

I would love to know your thoughts on today's video. Have you heard Adagio before? Have you tried La Croix? What were your strange pregnancy cravings? How do you deal with back pain? Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

I hope you enjoyed today's video. I'll see you on Thursday for a homeschool end-of-year recap.

I hope all of my fellow Americans had a wonderful Independence Day. We celebrated by watching a spectacular fireworks show.

A few weeks ago, we concluded our first year of homeschooling. How did I like it? How did my husband like it? How did the kids like homeschooling? How did they do on the standardized test? What about socialization? Are we homeschooling next year? What are our plans for the summer?

All of these questions and more are answered in today's video, which shares a detailed recap of our first year homeschooling. I truly hope you enjoy today's post. To learn the backstory of why we started homeschooling in the first place, check out my post, Let's Talk About Homeschooling. You can also see the post sharing our Homeschool Room Tour.

On Monday's Pregnancy Chat and Favorites video, I recommended Albinoni's Adagio. So many people enjoyed listening to this beautiful piece. Plumsareyum writes, "Adagio is my favourite classical music piece! Thanks for your videos, I love watching and am a long-time subscriber."

Thank you so much for your long-time support of my channel, Plumsareyum. I appreciate you. Adagio is becoming my favorite piece as well. And it's hard to bump Chopin down the ladder for me! :)

I'm not sure what I was thinking trying out a new deodorant the day I performed in my daughters' piano recital, but thankfully my story has a happy ending!

In today's Natural Home with Jennifer, I'm reviewing Schmidt's Lavender + Sage natural deodorant.

The lavender + sage has a wonderful, natural scent and truly smells like pure lavender. The deodorant is also:

Scented with essential oils; no artificial fragrance
Free of aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens & phthalates
Certified Vegan and Cruelty-free

The first day I tried the deodorant, I performed in my daughters' piano recital, playing a duet with my younger daughter. It was a hot day and thankfully the deodorant worked well under pressure.

My daughter and I performing in her piano recital.

I hope you enjoy the review in today's video, along with our dress rehearsal piano performance.

You can find a two-pack of the deodorant on Amazon. I purchased the deodorant through Grove Collaborative where I get all of my natural cleaning and beauty products.

New customers to Grove can get a free Mrs.

I hope you enjoyed today's Natural Home with Jennifer. Let us know what your favorite natural deodorant is in the comment section. If you have any requests for future reviews for this series, please leave them below. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday!

How To Be Efficient | My Best Tips | Jennifer L. Scott

$
0
0

In my recent Self-Publishing Success Story, I mention that I am a very efficient person. If you are going to write books and raise a family, you need to be! :) This is an area that I have a lot of experience in and in today's video, I share my best efficiency tips with you.

To get an expanded discussion on each of the tips, please watch today's video. I have summarized them for you here.

Tip #1- Wake up well before your family. I usually wake up at 5:30am, a few hours before my children wake up. This quiet morning time is perfect for getting tasks done. I have the energy and motivation and it sets me up for the day. I feel prepared.

Tip #2- Cut out television. No seriously. A recent New York Times article stated that the average American adult watches 5 hours and 4 minutes of television a day. While you probably don't watch that much TV, imagine the hours you could recoup if you cut out television watching entirely.

Tip #3- Cut down on social media. For many of us, using Facebook can be a guilty pleasure. But track how much time you spend on your social media sites. This digital hobby could be taking up valuable hours and minutes in your day.

Tip #4- Make goals for yourself. If you are entering into a new season, make goals for yourself and take action to accomplish them. For example, during our summer break, I made the goal of organizing the pantry, establishing a filing system and clearing/ de-cluttering the homeschool room. I'm nearly finished with all three of those goals and it feels good!

Tip #5- Embrace schedules and routines. Utilizing routines doesn't mean you have a boring life, it just means your work is regularly getting done, which frees up time to enjoy other things. I have a cleaning schedule, a cooking schedule, and a working schedule among other regular weekly routines.

Tip #6- Use a planner. I put important appointments along with directions and alerts in my phone, but for everything else, I like to use a written planner. This helps me visualize my week and it honestly keeps me more prepared than when I only used the calendar feature on my phone. I use the The Happy Planner . Here is a link to all Happy Planner products on Amazon

Tip #7- Meal plan. In addition to planning our weekly meals, I really enjoy freezer cooking. Freezer cooking has helped us so much! It's wonderful knowing that a healthy, homemade meal is always available on the days where I am too busy to cook, or simply don't feel like cooking. It helps me be efficient without compromising our family mealtimes together.

These tips really only scratch the surface. If one of these topics interests you and you'd like to know more about it, please let me know in the comment section and I would be happy to expand the discussion in future video.

Comment of the Week
On last week's Homeschooling Update, Rachel writes, "I’m so glad you all had a great year! I am currently homeschooling my 3 older children (rising 1rst, 4th, and 6th grades) with a delightfully active 3 year old in tow. This is our 5th year, and we all enjoy it. I’m thrilled that I get the opportunity to spend so much time with my children while they are young. Our days are (usually) joyful and satisfying, and my children are thriving socially, academically, creatively, physically, spiritually, really all the ways I can think of. I love your books and your blog! I think of your work sometimes when I’m tempted to be sloppy, lazy, grumpy, and living in my pajamas. Getting dressed everyday makes a huge difference in my attitude and productivity! Thanks for the inspiration you give me to keep classy. Much love!"

Hi Rachel, your comment was very encouraging! I loved to read about your positive experience with homeschooling. I'm thrilled that it works so well for your family. Fantastic!

Favorite Mrs. Meyer's Scents | Natural Home with Jennifer

$

I'm posting two Natural Home with Jennifer videos this week. In today's video, I'm sharing some of my favorite Mrs. Meyer's scents. There are so many options and the scents are not your typical cleaning product scents: geranium, bluebell, honeysuckle, lemon verbena, basil, and lavender to name a few.

So today I break down my favorite scents for you. At the top of the list is the honeysuckle scent. On Friday, I will be reviewing the laundry line in honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is a beautifully sweet and delicate scent. It's my favorite.

I also love the Geranium scent. It's surprisingly delightful- more perfumed than the other scents, with a strong, floral and herbal aroma.

Another wonderful fragrance is Basil, which is unexpectedly mild and sweet, not savory, as I expected it to be.

The Lemon Verbena scent is a green, herbal scent that is very pleasing, although doesn't purely smell like the real lemon verbena plant.

The Lavender is very pleasant although, like the lemon verbena, doesn't ring as a pure lavender scent to me. This one is more heady and herbal.

I discuss all of the scents I have tried in today's video. Today, I would love to know what your favorite scent is.

I'm posting this special post on a Tuesday because Grove Collaborative is running a new gift promotion for the month of July, where new customers will receive a Mrs. Meyer's dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand lotion and an adorable farmhouse-style cleaning caddy when they spend $20. (I have been told that the cleaning caddy goes quickly so this promotion is only valid while supplies last.)

This promotion starts today and runs until Sunday, so I wanted to give you the opportunity to take advantage of it. Existing Grove customers will always receive a walnut scrubber sponge set for free when you use my special link.

Please note that after Sunday, you will still receive a free gift, it will not include the caddy.

I hope you enjoyed today's bonus video. I would love to know... what is your favorite Mrs. Meyer's scent?

I'll see you on Thursday a wonderful interview with Nikki Moreno from Inspired by Nikki.

Regarding Monday's post on Efficiency, sheldinecooper on Instagram writes, "I don't know if this is a tip but I just find ways in which to do something the fastest way possible... For example things like "don't walk somewhere empty handed" when moving house or tidying, make every step and trip count, map out routes when shopping, what's on the way where to pass by next and where to on the way back..."

Sheldinecooper, this is really great advice. I do the same! Whenever I travel to a new room, I always carry something with me that needs to be put away. Great clutter-clearing advice too. Thank you!

Mrs. Meyer's Laundry Detergent in Honeysuckle + Laundry Room Tour | Natural Home with Jennifer

I had so much fun connecting with you four times this week on the blog! Today's post is highly requested: I am sharing my review of the Mrs. Meyer's laundry detergent line, namely the detergent, fabric softener, and scent booster. I have the honeysuckle scent and simply adore this laundry system.

I also give you a tour of our laundry room in today's video, and talk about the nostalgic scent of Madame Chic's laundry detergent.

I have two basic white laundry racks that I use in the room to hang-dry clothes...

...as well as one wall-mounted laundry rack.

I use this wall-mounted rack to hold my ironing board and iron.

You can find Mrs. Meyer's laundry detergent in many places. Online you can find a two-pack on Amazon, the fabric softener on Amazon, and the scent booster on Amazon.

As you know, I like to get my natural cleaning products from Grove Collaborative, who tend to have the best prices, wider variety of choices, and really great regular gifts for their VIP customers.

Grove Collaborative is running a new gift promotion for the month of July, where new customers will receive a Mrs.

My sister ordered the free gift and didn't realize you could choose your own scent at checkout. So if you take advantage of the offer, be sure to select your favorite scent. For a review of the Mrs. Meyer's scents, please see my blogpost from Tuesday, Favorite Mrs. Meyer's Scents.

This gift promotion starts today and runs until Sunday, so I wanted to give you the opportunity to take advantage of it. Existing Grove customers will always receive a walnut scrubber sponge set for free when you use my special link.

I hope you enjoyed the review and laundry room tour in today's video. I also plan to review the Method laundry detergent in the coming months. Please let me know if you have any requests for other laundry reviews. I'll see you on Monday for a master bedroom tour! Have a great weekend.

Master Bedroom & Bathroom Tour | Jennifer L. Scott

$

0

I recently posted a home tour featuring the downstairs portion of our home. Many people requested an upstairs tour as well, so in today's video, I'm sharing our master bedroom and bathroom with you.

I like to keep our master bedroom minimal and serene. Everything is cream and white, which makes for a nice background with the mossy/ taupe walls. You might remember that in our last home we put up wallpaper in the master bedroom. We would like to do the same here one day, but as for now, we are enjoying the neutral and muted color palette.

Our master bathroom is very large and light. It's a wonderful space to work with. I would love to update the bathroom one day with new, well, everything! Countertops, floors and backsplash. Maybe one day. Until then, I am enjoying it as it is.

The following items that are mentioned in today's video aide in creating an atmosphere of calm and relaxation in our room...

The Lëvoit air purifier is truly awesome. I've always wanted to try a purifier but was skeptical as to whether or not they actually worked. I can tell you after running this now for weeks that the air in our bedroom is markedly different than in the rest of the home. You step in and it's like the air is sparkling clean. I love the different settings you can set it to. I want to put one of these in each of our bedrooms now. Because of Amazon Prime Day, the Levoit purifier is heavily discounted. For more on Levoit, visit their website here.

The sound machine I have is the Brookstone sound machine. My husband gave this to me for Christmas this year and I love it. My favorite setting is thunderstorm and I turn it on every night.

The essential oil diffuser I use in conjunction with my doTerra oils, was purchased from my friend, Antoinette. You can find her information here. I generally like to diffuse lavender essential oil at night. It helps me relax and calm down after a long day.

I hope you enjoy the tour in today's video.

On last week's Inspired by Nikki interview, Alexandra writes,
Hello Jennifer,

Thank you for introducing us to Nikki. I like her lovely, soft yin energy with her feminine decor, her love of ballet, her appreciation of silence, and how gorgeous she looks in grey. I will be taking a closer look at her blog.
I would like to suggest a couple of books based on the books you two mentioned. If you like "Material World", then I think you will love "In Her Kitchen: Stories and Recipes from Grandmas Around the World". Also, if you like the "The 5 Different Languages of Love", then you will adore "The Child Whisperer" by Carol Tuttle. This book discusses the four different energy types that children (and adults) can have and how to proceed accordingly.

Thanks again for the interview!
Alexandra

Hi Alexandra, you always have the most insightful comments. Thank you for those two book recommendations. I've linked them here for others to check out as well. I'm really interested in the cookbook sharing the recipes from grandmothers around the world. Thank you!

I hope you enjoyed today's master bedroom and bathroom tour. Today I would love to know how you decorate your bedroom. What do you have in your bedroom at night to help you unwind? The Woman's Herbal Apothecary | Book Review

I have the pleasure of reviewing the new book, The Woman's Herbal Apothecary, by JJ Pursell for you in today's video.

Here is the description from Amazon:

The Woman's Herbal Apothecary: 200 Natural Remedies for Healing, Hormone Balance, Beauty and Longevity, and Creating Calm

The Woman’s Herbal Apothecary is every woman’s lifelong guide to herbal remedies for common health concerns. Novice herbalists and advanced practitioner’s alike will learn how to naturally treat the complete spectrum of women’s concerns, including preventative self-care, life transitions, and common feminine ailments.

Learn how to prevent, soothe, and heal without resorting to medical remedies, which are often harsh, costly, and include unpleasant side effects. The Woman’s Herbal Apothecary contains 200 natural remedies, covering the topics of menses, pregnancy, menopause, aging, fibroids, bladder infections, and low libido, among others.

The book is conveniently divided into the major cycles of a woman’s life: pre-childbirth, reproductive years, menopause, and beyond. Each section discusses specific physical complaints and how to treat them. You will learn which herbs are the most helpful for each phase of life and which are contraindicated or to be avoided. Master herbalist and naturopathic doctor JJ Pursell provides her own herbal solutions and DIY herbal remedies. The concluding section is divided by specific common health issues in women, such as cardiac disease, thyroid disease, and adrenal dysfunction.

With The Woman’s Herbal Apothecary in hand, you are on your way to healing, hormone balance, beauty, longevity, and calm—the natural way.

I have always been interested in natural healing, so I found this book to be fascinating. Pursell has different recipes for so many health issues that affect women, everything from teas, to tinctures, to poultices, to sitz baths.

This book is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in natural healing. It would also make a great gift.

For more, visit Dr. JJ's website.

I hope you enjoy the review in today's video.

Method Dish Soap in Clementine | Natural Home with Jennifer

In today's video, I'm sharing my review of Method's dish soap in clementine.

The punchy citrus scent of clementine evokes memories of my favorite Body Shop scent from the 90s: satsuma. This is a wonderful, non-toxic dish soap.

Here's more on the clementine scent from Method: as the zesty kid sister to the orange, our sweet clementine often feels that she’s not taken seriously. we think serious is overrated anyway. but from here forward, we decree that she be known as the patron citrus of all that is good, clean, bright + cheery. hear, hear!

I hope you enjoy my review in today's video.

I have seen Method dish soap in stores, but not in the clementine scent. I purchased mine from Grove Collaborative. You can also find it as a 2-pack on Amazon, although the price on Grove Collaborative is much less expensive.

If you are trying Grove Collaborative for the first time, new customers will receive a Mrs. Meyer's dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's hand soap, and Mrs. Meyer's hand lotion when they spend $20. Existing Grove customers will always receive a walnut scrubber sponge set for free when you use my special link.

It's beauty week on The Daily Connoisseur! You will see four videos from me this week. Today, we're talking nail polish. On Tuesday and Thursday, I'm sharing requested hair tutorials, and on Friday we have a new Natural Home with Jennifer. I'm excited for a fun week with you on the blog!

I enjoy swatching the LONDONTOWN nail colors for you each season. Made in the USA, LONDONTOWN nail polishes have
Florium Complex enriching botanicals infused into their beautiful colors, which are also 9-free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

What does 9-free mean? It means that the polishes are free of 9 potentially harmful chemicals: formaldehyde, camphor, toluene, DBP (dibutyl pthalate and phthalates), formaldehyde resin, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, parabens, and lead.

Today, I'm swatching some of their prettiest summer colors for 2018.

Guilty Pleasure, a delightful cherry red

Amalfi Love, a cool blue

Briolette An iridescent lavender shade

Opal A shimmering lilac

Out of Office, a pastel pink

Summer Fling, a lovely shocking pink

Nail hardener and base coat, Gel Genius Top Coat, Strengthening Lacquer Remover

It was a delight to try out the summer shades for Londontown. I truly do love their polishes. Their lasting power is comparable to the major nail polish brands, without all of the nasty chemicals.

I would love to know which one is your favorite. I hope you enjoy today's video.

Beauty week continues on The Daily Connoisseur with today's hair tutorial, which has been requested by a few ladies this summer. I've been wearing my hair in this style a lot recently. It's really easy to do, looks elegant, and is perfect for the summer months.

Simply pull the top half of your hair back. Twist the top portion of your hair to the right while simultaneously pushing it up to create volume in the crown. Pin with bobby pins. Set with hairspray. This is a beautiful summer look.

I use the Garnier Fructis hairspray in sleek & style. These bobby pins for brunettes are also great. I am also linking bobby pins for blondes. Try to match your hair color as best you can with the bobby pins so they hide into the hair.

I hope you enjoy the tutorial in today's video.

Easy Chignon Updo Hair Tutorial | Jennifer L. Scott

I have another simple hair tutorial for you today. This one is a chic chignon that is really easy to do. It builds upon the half-up tutorial you learned on Tuesday.

Pull your hair half back. Take the top portion of hair and twist it to the right, while simultaneously pushing it up to create volume on the crown. Secure with bobby pins.

Take a hair tie and create a low ponytail at the base of the head. You can leave it as a ponytail, or if you'd like to make an updo, you can create a ponytail but not pull the hair all the way through. Wrap the bottom strands around the bun you have created and then pin the rest of the bun into place against your head in a manner that looks attractive with bobby pins. Once you are happy with your bun, spray with hairspray.

I use the Garnier Fructis sleek & style hair spray.

I hope you enjoy today's hair tutorial video. If you try this look and would like to share it with us, snap a picture for social media using the hashtag #dailyconnoisseur I would love to see your chic chignon!
